Uganda’s Nyanzi Martin Luther Signals 2041 Bid for Kampala Lord Mayor

KAMPALA, Uganda — April 28, 2026

Ugandan media entrepreneur Nyanzi Martin Luther has announced his intention to run for Kampala Lord Mayor in the 2041 elections, outlining an early-stage political vision centered on long-term urban transformation and youth-focused development.

Nyanzi, founder of Apex Media Services, made the announcement in Kampala, framing it as the beginning of a sustained public leadership journey rather than an immediate campaign.

“This is about preparing Kampala for the future,” he said. “The city must evolve into a modern, efficient, and inclusive urban center by 2041 and beyond.”

He said his proposed agenda would prioritize smart city development, improved urban transport systems, digitization of public services, and expanded opportunities for young people in entrepreneurship and technology.

Nyanzi also emphasized the need for stronger long-term planning in Kampala’s governance structures, arguing that rapid urban growth requires forward-looking leadership models that extend beyond short electoral cycles.

Although the 2041 elections remain far in the future, his declaration has drawn attention from political observers, who say it reflects a broader shift in how emerging leaders are building political identity through long-range positioning and media visibility.

Analysts note that such early announcements are increasingly common among younger public figures seeking to establish influence over time, particularly in rapidly growing urban centers across East Africa.

Political commentators, however, caution that long-term candidacy declarations remain highly uncertain due to changing political dynamics, institutional reforms, and evolving electoral conditions over time.

Nyanzi said he will continue engaging citizens through media platforms and youth-centered initiatives as he builds toward what he describes as a “generational leadership project” for Kampala.

Kampala, which continues to expand as Uganda’s commercial and administrative capital, is projected to face mounting pressure on infrastructure, housing, and public services in the coming decades, making urban governance a central issue in future political discourse.
