💧 Diarrhea Is Not Just a Childhood Illness — Let’s Break the Silence
In my journey as a doctor and a mother, I’ve seen how diarrhea is quietly ignored until it becomes dangerous. While we often associate it with babies and toddlers, acute diarrheal disease affects people of all ages—and it still causes millions of preventable deaths worldwide.
📝 10 Things Everyone Should Know About Acute Diarrhea:
1. Diarrhea is a symptom, not a disease—and it deserves attention, not shame.
2. It’s usually caused by germs in unsafe water, food, or poor hygiene.
3. Dehydration is the real danger—especially in children, elderly, and those with chronic illnesses.
4. Oral Rehydration Salts (ORS) are the most effective first-line treatment for all age groups. (Always try to keep some at home)
5. Zinc supplements (in children) help reduce the duration and prevent recurrence.
6. Adults should avoid self-medicating with antibiotics or anti-diarrheals
7. Continue eating—light, frequent meals and fluids help your gut recover.
8. Practice strict hygiene: wash hands, clean toilets, boil water, store food properly.
9. See a doctor if there's high fever, blood in stool, repeated vomiting, or signs of dehydration.
10. Prevention is power: clean drinking water, clean hands, clean food.
