🧠 Purpose of the Initiative

To distribute one million copies of the trauma-informed children’s book MELLIE and the PANDEMIC to hospitals, schools, NGOs, and underserved communities worldwide—empowering children to process pandemic-related trauma through storytelling, emotional literacy, and connection.

This initiative is a call to rewrite the emotional curriculum for children. It’s not just about literacy—it’s about legacy.

šŸ“– About the Book: MELLIE and the PANDEMIC

Written by Rahul K. Maharaj, MELLIE and the PANDEMIC follows a young girl navigating the emotional challenges of lockdown, isolation, and uncertainty. Guided by the gentle wisdom of ā€œJerry the Doctor,ā€ Mellie learns to name her feelings, embrace change, and rediscover hope.

Jerry’s messageā€”ā€œDon’t worry. Smile. Things will get better.ā€ā€”is more than reassurance. It’s a lifeline. And his reminder of the healing power of a hug speaks to a truth many children were deprived of during the pandemic:

Touch is not trivial. It’s medicine.

This book doesn’t just speak.

It hugs you back.

---

šŸ’” Why This Book Belongs Everywhere

As a psychiatrist and survivor-informed educator, I believe this book belongs in:

- Every school

- Every NGO

- Every child care center

- Every child psychiatry clinic

It teaches the most important lessons no textbook can:

1. Naming emotions and feelings

2. Nurturing relationships

3. Understanding the power of communication and human touch

It also teaches children that change is inevitable, and the only constant in life. Mellie’s journey is a gentle guide through uncertainty, reminding young readers that they are not alone.

And Jerry—the cartoon doctor—is more than a character. He’s a symbol of hope.

šŸŽ“ About the Advocate Behind the Movement

Rahul K. Maharaj is not just an author—he is one of the most powerful mental health advocates of our time, known for blending trauma-informed storytelling with global impact. His voice has become a beacon for survivors, educators, and changemakers across continents.

Through his organization Your Trauma Talks, his school-based initiative Trauma Talks Academy, and his early work with Little Angels Day Care in Trinidad and Tobago, Rahul has created safe spaces where children are not only cared for—but emotionally equipped to thrive.

Little Angels Day Care was one of his earliest community-driven efforts, rooted in compassion, safety, and emotional development. It laid the foundation for his belief that healing must begin early, and that every child deserves to feel safe, seen, and supported. That ethos now echoes globally through Project 1 Million.

Rahul’s legacy is not just in literature—it’s in every hug, every story, and every child who learns to say, ā€œI feel.ā€

---

šŸŽ¬ The Cinematic Soul of Healing

As SRK says,

ā€œPicture ki tarah zindagi mein bhi sab acha ho jaata hai.ā€

This book believes it. So do we. #KalHoNaHo

And yes—part 2 is coming. Because picture abhi baaki hai.

Rahul reminds us that naming emotions is more vital than memorizing facts, and that hugs are not gestures of formality—they’re nervous system resets.

A hug from the right person melts away all the stress.

---

šŸ“£ Call to Action

Rahul K. Maharaj is calling on sponsors, educators, hospitals, NGOs, and media outlets to join the movement.

> ā€œOne million books is just the beginning,ā€ he says.

> ā€œEvery child deserves to read Mellie’s story. Every child deserves to be heard.ā€
