💡 Rising Above: A Personal Reflection on Growth & Leadership

I still remember the moment I almost walked away from my career in tech. It was a time when self-doubt, imposter syndrome, and the challenges of being a woman in engineering felt overwhelming. I had worked hard, excelled technically, and contributed valuable insights—but still, I struggled to find my voice in leadership meetings, push back on biases, and truly believe that I belonged at the table.

One of the biggest challenges I faced wasn’t just about technical complexity—it was about navigating leadership as a woman in a male-dominated industry. There were moments when I hesitated to speak up, questioning whether my ideas were valid. I saw colleagues with less experience take bold steps, while I second-guessed myself. The turning point?

🌟 A Defining Moment in Leadership

A major project was spiraling out of control—missed deadlines, misaligned priorities, and a team struggling with clarity. The leader at the time was unavailable, and the team needed direction, problem-solving, and confidence. I had two choices:

✅ Step up and take charge despite my fears, or

❌ Stay silent and let the chaos continue.

I chose the first.

I initiated team discussions, restructured priorities, and started driving the project forward, not by authority but by empowering the team, facilitating solutions, and ensuring every voice was heard. Slowly, things started to shift. We met our critical deadlines, regained momentum, and delivered results.

At the end of it, a senior leader pulled me aside and said:

"You have a natural ability to lead. Why haven’t you stepped into it sooner?"

That moment changed everything. I realized leadership isn’t about waiting for permission—it’s about owning your strengths, making decisions, and creating impact.

💬 Advice to My Younger Self (And Young Women in Tech)

1️⃣ Your voice matters – Speak up, even when you feel like the least experienced person in the room. Your perspective is valuable.

2️⃣ Take up space – You belong in every meeting, discussion, and opportunity. Don’t shrink yourself to fit others’ expectations.

3️⃣ Lead before you have the title – Leadership isn’t just a position; it’s how you take initiative, solve problems, and uplift those around you.

4️⃣ Find your allies – Seek mentors, sponsors, and networks that support your growth. You don’t have to navigate this journey alone.

5️⃣ Trust yourself – You know more than you think you do. Don’t let self-doubt hold you back from the opportunities you deserve.

Today, I mentor other women in tech, helping them navigate these very same challenges. My mission is clear: to create a world where female engineers don’t just participate in technology but lead it.
