Talking about my intentions and strategies to improve Menstrual healthcare and hygiene Education in Malawi here on WorldPulse kicked off my storylines on Agwamma Women Outreach Initiatives.
As a new member, i didn't even know WorldPulse give awards and do special members features for Initiatives that touches the heart of not just WorldPulse organizations and Partners but, initiatives found to be very useful and valuable to be executed in our various nonprofit chosen locations.
I saw the Initiative section and started my first batch of writings with -Menstrual Hygiene Education which is a very important aspect of Agwamma Women outreach Rural communities Projects in Malawi.
Menstrual Health being a major concern for girls/women especially teenagers in high school not just in Malawi but in most African countries, is such a sensitive area because it involves a very vital part of the female body.
If the menstrual hygiene of a female is poor it goes a long way to damage a lot of the person's health long term. So my initiative on menstrual hygiene comes from my research and investigations on the sufferings/fraustrations of high school students who miss exams, classes even get laughed at by male classmates during their menstruation cycle.
Now, because most of these teenagers who hardly can afford clinical manufactured sanitary Towels do not want to be missing schools or segregated due to blood stains, they resort to managing their blood flow with dirty clothes/rags which to me, is highly unhygienic and barbaric.
On the other hand, those who didn't want to use dirty clothes sew for themselves Reusable pads. Though these pads are sewn with new flannel materials but they are also not that hygienic. They have to be washed regularly which still brings in the question on- How do these girls maintain good hygiene in washing these reusable pads without them retaining germs? Let us also know that most of these communities hardly have regular water supply both at school and at home. Again they must also use Disinfectants to help prevent germs. How many of them can also afford Disinfectants if they can't afford to buy sanitary towels?
This is why we seek sponsors and donations for Clean sanitary pads, Antiseptic wipes, toiletries, Sanitizers so they can still maintain some good hygiene without regular water supply.
Monthly flow for sure is natural so cannot be controlled or else am sure these girls will choose to control it than being fraustrated by the ugly situations they find themselves monthly.
So my menstrual hygiene campaign tagged- #1pad4her in Malawi has actually made some impact by being recognized by World Pulse Organization as a Featured Initiative.
This article is a brief update on that initiative Impact after i finished my -"Measuring my Impact training"and, to officially appreciate and-
🙏 thank WORLD PULSE💜 for such an unexpected honors.
This Initiative will be having lots of updates because of its high USEFULNESS to the girls/women in Malawi.
We are still seeking for Donors of above mentioned items to help us distribute to our teenagers in high schools so at least, they cannot be missing their studies and Exams due to lack of Sanitary towels. ✍💌
