Early January 2020, I shared with a few friends my vision of the Motherhood NG Initiative. Then, just months later, the world shut down. COVID-19 came with fear, isolation, and lockdowns, and everyone told me, “Wait till things get better.” But deep inside, I knew that for many mothers in poor communities, waiting could cost a life.
So, in the middle of that lockdown, I launched Project Safe Birth. We started small, gathering safe birth kits, moving carefully from one community to another, giving pregnant women the dignity, safety, and hope they deserve.
Today, as I write this on World Pulse, I’m deeply grateful. In 5 years, we have reached over 20,000 women, distributed 5,000 safe birth kits, and retrained 222 traditional birth attendants to deliver safer care. We’ve travelled to 4 States and 14 communities, with nothing but faith, sacrifice, and the unwavering love of volunteers who believe that no woman should risk her life just because she can’t afford clean delivery items.
