A Girl Should Not Have To Choose Between Safety And Freedom.

My initiative is to raise awareness about girls’ safety and encourage communities, universities, and authorities to create safer environments. I want to support girls in speaking up about the challenges they face and finding practical solutions.

For many girls, going to university, attending work, visiting a market, or travelling through their community is a normal part of everyday life. Yet for many others, these simple activities can come with fear, restrictions, and uncertainty.

A girl should not have to think twice before stepping outside her home because she is worried about her safety.

Girls may face unwanted attention, harassment, unsafe public spaces, poor transportation, and a lack of support when they experience problems. These challenges can affect their education, confidence, career opportunities, and participation in society.

Instead of addressing unsafe environments, girls are sometimes told to change their behaviour. They may be advised not to travel alone or not to stay outside for too long. But safety should not depend on how carefully a girl behaves.

Girls themselves understand many of the challenges they face. Their experiences and opinions should be included when communities and institutions plan solutions.

Universities and workplaces can provide safe complaint systems and awareness programs. Communities can work together to make public spaces safer. Authorities can take complaints seriously and improve safety around transportation and other public areas.

Creating safer communities is not the responsibility of girls alone. Families, schools, universities, workplaces, communities, and authorities all have a role to play.

We need to move from simply telling girls to “be careful” toward creating environments where they can actually feel safe.

When girls feel safe, they are more likely to continue their education, pursue careers, participate in their communities, and use their voices to create positive change.

A girl’s freedom should not end where her fear begins. Every girl deserves the opportunity to learn, work, speak, and move forward safely and confidently.
