a letter to all women out there

This is a letter to every woman, I hope you can feel heard and understood while you read my words, even if just a little bit, because while introducing myself to the world and sharing my beliefs, can also resemble bits and pieces of other amazing women.

Today, being a feminist is a huge part of myself, my desire to perpetuate equality gives me a sense of purpose; however, my journey into getting introduced to the concept of feminism was not a road filled with wildflowers and sunshine, there were days where everything just felt out of place, including myself, but today I can say that I am proud of every step I took.

I am 17 years old, I am very young and the society we live in already made me feel scared, weak and less of a person, only because of the gender I was assigned at birth and actually identify with, I know I am not the only one thinking this way.

What made me the person I am today? I grew up surrounded by good moments and good people, still there is always bad experiences mixed with bad intentioned individuals. Take it as an example, what made me so intitled of my body and clothing choices? Well, it took me some time handling misogynistic and toxic words, to understand that no one has the right to say that my weight made me look disgusting or that wearing a short skirt made me a whore, it is crazy to think that for a period of time I believed in every word, I believed that the respect I deserved came in with a lenght of a skirt.

Being a girl has also consequences inside my house, what I once thought it was a love gesture, today is a feeling of being forbidden to discover myself, sexuality and freedom are never discussed inside my home.

What I want the world to know about me? That it disgusts me how we are victims of a society built on rape culture, men supremacy, female rivarly and toxic masculinity. My heart aches for everyone that does not have access to education, every person that does not have the money for sanitary products, everyone that has felt unsafe inside their room or on the streets, to all of the survivors of sexual assault and everyone that is fighting their own battle, that is always hard.

And this is who I am, a white privileged woman, with all of my basic needs fullfilled and able to have an education, that will not shut up until all of us live in freedom, in equality and peace.

To you reading this, I hope you are having a good day, I am sending good energies your way, thank you for being here.

Sincerely, Isaura
