A Moving Encourager Party

A moment from our encourager party. Four women on a Zoom call: One woman with curly, purple hair working as our ASL interpreter, a woman named Margizu wearing a white shirt against a yellow wall,

A moment from our encourager party!

We had a beautiful, beautiful Encourager Party on November 14, 2024 - it was beautiful to see so many new members attend the session! We started off with an introduction to the Encourager Party for all our new members, and then we went into a fantastic fireside chat with the amazing Dr Sadia Javaid and Margizu Apeto. So many of you may already know these brilliant women, for sure, but I'm going to tell you a little about them anyway!

Margizu is an active leader of the Ukaha youth organization in her local community and a proud graduate from a private media school in Vermont. As a survivor of post elections violence in Kenya back in 2007/2008, Margizu lives in Kenya and the US. She is an advocate for change in her community, a professional journalist, and a mentor to anyone who reaches out. She is also a climate change activist.

Dr Sadia Javaid is a dedicated physician and emerging author who is passionate about preventing Gender-Based Violence (GBV). Having obtained her MBBS and M.Phil. in Physiology from the University of Health Sciences, Pakistan, she possesses a strong medical foundation. She actively engages in advocacy and awareness campaigns, collaborating with communities and organizations to develop strategies for preventing GBV. Her commitment to gender equality is evident in her work as she strives to create safe spaces and educate individuals about the implications of GBV.

I had to pause for a moment - because between this level of activism and professional work, they are actively involved in encouraging community. How beautiful, right?

Do listen in to the amazing Encourager Party using the recording below. I unfortunately had a moment where my connectivity took a beating with the rain and power trip up - but special thanks to the amazing Martha and Tiffani for supporting me through it all!
