……,
Ambassador Tamim Khalaf, the spokesman for the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, announced that Egypt will assume the presidency of the African Peace and Security Council starting from October 1, for a period of one month.
In its meeting held on September 25, at the level of foreign ministers, to discuss the issue of the Sudanese war, this council had decided to keep the issue under active consideration, and to implement a solidarity field visit by a delegation from it to Port Sudan this October, headed by the Republic of Egypt, to communicate with stakeholders on the ground, and explore ways to reach a sustainable solution to the conflict in Sudan.
The meeting approved holding a meeting of the Ad Hoc Committee on Sudan, headed by Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, this October; urging neighboring countries, member states of the African Union, and the international community to support the efforts of the committee in order to reach a quick solution to the conflict.
He noted with deep concern the ongoing conflict in Sudan between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces in Sudan, and strongly condemned once again the violence in Sudan, in particular the recent violent clashes and the humanitarian catastrophe in El Fasher State, the capital of North Darfur State. He called on the warring parties to cease fire immediately and unconditionally, and reiterated the strong need to ensure the effective protection of civilians from atrocities and looming famine; reaffirmed the absence of a viable and sustainable military solution to the conflict; and called for a genuine and inclusive dialogue that could lead to a sustainable solution to the crisis in Sudan. He reaffirmed the continued importance and implementation of the African Union Roadmap for the resolution of the crisis in Sudan, including its key pillars of a comprehensive and unconditional ceasefire, humanitarian access and the protection of civilians, and requested the Commission and the High-Level Panel on Sudan to strengthen cooperation with partners to ensure its full implementation. He called on the warring parties to fully implement the agreements reached in the Jeddah Declaration issued on 11 May 2023 regarding the access of humanitarian aid and the protection of civilians, and strongly condemned all attacks and acts of violence against civilians, and the commission of violations against children, women and girls, and demanded respect for international humanitarian law and human rights law, and warned perpetrators of crimes that they will be held accountable for their actions. He said that he notes with great concern the deterioration of the humanitarian situation in Darfur, and called on the Rapid Support Forces to lift the siege on the city of El Fasher as soon as possible, and that the Rapid Support Forces and the Sudanese Armed Forces ensure safe and unhindered access of humanitarian aid to the besieged population. With severe food insecurity in some areas of Sudan, he condemned the attacks on farmers that disrupt the ability to provide for the needs of the Sudanese population. The spokesman for the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, in statements to the "By Paper and Pen" program on "TEN" channel, that the African Peace and Security Council is the most important main body in the African Union, and consists of 15 countries responsible for peace and security issues on the continent
