ANTIMICROBIAL RESISTANCE AWARENESS

Every time I find myself in a hospital, the first thing that comes to mind is Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR)—a growing problem contributing to rising mortality rates and something that should be discussed every day.

Microbial resistance can affect anyone. We all come into contact with harmful microbes in ways we may not even realize. It’s not just about taking antibiotics, antifungals, antiviral drugs inappropriately—our environment also plays a role. And it’s not only humans who are affected; animals are impacted too.

This is an issue that should be discussed by all health professionals, both in human and animal health.

Now is the time to educate our communities on rational drug use and how AMR can be prevented.

If health professionals can come together under one umbrella to identify challenges and find solutions for the betterment of society, then, by doing this, we fulfill the reason we became health professionals: to serve and save lives.
