Becoming Me: A Moment that changed me.

During one of my sessions with girls, a young girl after the program approached me with her voice trembled at first, but her eyes held a steady fire. She looked at me and said, “I will be like you.”

Those five words settled deep in my heart. They were not just a compliment; they were a declaration, a mirror held up to my life. In that moment, I realized that my journey was no longer mine alone. I was not just mentoring girls, I was becoming the image of what was possible for them.

That moment was a turning point. It awakened me to the reality that every choice I make, every step I take, is shaping how others see their own path. Becoming me suddenly meant more than achieving personal goals. It meant living with integrity so that the girls who looked up to me could see an example worth following.

Since then, I have continued to hear these words echoed in different voices: “I want to be like you.” Every time, they humble me. They remind me that becoming me requires choosing dignity over shortcuts, contentment over greed, and purpose over fleeting opportunities. The world may present enticing offers that compromise my values, but I choose to remain grounded, because I know my life is a message, and someone is listening.

Becoming me is not about perfection, it is about responsibility.

It is about becoming a mirror of courage for girls who dare to dream.

It is about becoming a reminder that our circumstances do not define us.

It is about becoming a living testimony that with resilience, faith, and dignity, one can rise above limitations.

That one girl’s declaration “I will be like you” changed me forever. It keeps me in check, anchoring me to the core of who I am. It taught me that becoming me is not only about who I am becoming for myself, but also about who I am becoming for the many girls who see their own possibilities through me.

And so, I continue this journey not just becoming me, but helping them become too.
