"Beyond the 16 Days: A Daily Fight to End GBV"

Nowadays, it feels like everyone is talking about Gender-Based Violence (GBV)—especially during the 16 Days of Activism. Social media is flooded with hashtags, events are held, and voices are raised. And while this is all important, one question keeps coming back:

Why do we only speak up during these 16 days?

Why not every day? Why can’t we stand up against GBV the moment it begins?

The truth is, GBV doesn’t wait for campaigns to happen. It doesn’t take a break or fit neatly into a calendar. For millions of people, it’s an everyday reality. So why do we wait for specific dates to have this conversation?

Let’s be honest: silence is one of the biggest reasons GBV continues. It starts small—an inappropriate act done by husband or when among both the partners one CHEAT ! you forgive for the sake of respect or in laws stop you because of the so called stereotype thought that men can do anything, a comment that makes someone feel less than, or ignoring behavior that crosses the line. These moments might seem insignificant, but they create an environment where violence can grow.

And then, when the violence escalates, we react. We speak out after someone is harmed. But isn’t it better to prevent the harm from happening in the first place? Isn’t it better to address the issue when it’s just beginning, rather than waiting for it to spiral out of control?

Why do we only speak up during these 16 days?

We all need to understand that these actions don’t require a special campaign or a big platform. They just require courage and consistency.

LETS CHANGE THE NARRATIVE TODAY

The 16 Days of Activism are a powerful reminder, but they’re not the solution. The solution lies in what we do every day—how we challenge the norms, break the silence, and inspire others to do the same.

Imagine a world where we don’t wait for a campaign to talk about GBV. A world where standing against violence is as natural as breathing. A world where everyone feels safe and valued, not just for 16 days but every day.

That world is possible, but it starts with us. So let’s not wait for another day, another hashtag, or another tragedy. Let’s stand out and speak up the moment we see injustice.

Because GBV doesn’t wait—and neither should we.

There are alot of people taking the initiative and i am proud of them so i planned to be the one who can motivate and be an inspiration to all others to be part of this INITIATIVE to create a Positive change. It doesn't require where we are, what we are, we just need the courage to stand up for ourselves.
