Breaking the Silence: A Survivor's Journey to Advocacy
I was 19 when my life changed forever. It was supposed to be an ordinary evening—dinner with friends in my small community in Yekepa, Liberia. As I walked home under the starry sky, a sense of safety surrounded me. But that night, my world turned dark in an instant.
I was attacked. Violated. My cries for help were drowned by the laughter of my assailant. When it was over, I was left broken, bleeding, and alone.
The days that followed were even harder. The whispers in my neighborhood were louder than my own screams had been. The questions from others stung more than the act itself: “What were you wearing?” “Why were you out late?”
Shame cloaked me like a heavy fog. My parents tried to console me, but their fear of stigma kept them from pursuing justice. I felt silenced and erased.
For months, I lived in the shadow of my trauma, consumed by anger, fear, and guilt. I withdrew from school, my friends, and even myself. But one day, as I stared at my reflection in the mirror, I realized something: My silence was feeding the very culture that allowed rape to flourish.
Finding My Voice
I stumbled upon World Pulse during one of my endless nights of searching for hope online. The stories of women from around the world—women who had faced violence, injustice, and hardship but refused to be silenced—lit a spark in me.
Through tears, I shared my story on the platform. The responses were overwhelming. Women from all corners of the world reached out, offering not just sympathy but solidarity. They reminded me that I wasn’t alone and that my voice had power.
With their support, I began to rebuild myself piece by piece. I went back to school, joined local women’s groups, and started learning about my rights. I connected with organizations that provided counseling for survivors and legal aid for those seeking justice.
Turning Pain into Purpose
Today, I am an advocate for survivors of rape and sexual violence. I organize workshops in my community to educate young people about consent and respect. I work with local leaders to challenge the stigma around reporting sexual assault.
Through World Pulse, I launched an initiative called "Voices of Strength", where survivors can safely share their stories and access resources. Together, we are creating a ripple effect, challenging the silence that has long protected perpetrators.

A Call to Action
Rape is not just a crime against one person—it is an attack on humanity itself. It thrives on silence, stigma, and systems that fail survivors. But we can change that.
If you’re reading this, I urge you to join us. Speak out, educate your community, and advocate for policies that protect and empower survivors. Share this story, share your own, or simply offer a listening ear to someone in need.
Together, we can break the chains of shame and silence. Together, we can build a world where no one has to say, “Me too.”
Let’s rise, speak, and act. The time is now.
