Breaking the Silence: A Woman’s Voice from Zambia

As a woman living in Zambia, I have witnessed the unspoken pain carried by so many girls and women — pain born from silence, fear, and shame. I have spoken to young girls forced into marriages before they could dream, before they could choose. I have listened to survivors of sexual assault whose voices were buried beneath stigma and societal pressure.

But I am not silent anymore — and neither should you be.

Breaking the silence is not easy. It requires courage, support, and relentless advocacy. I’ve learned that healing begins the moment we start speaking out — when we tell our stories, demand justice, and educate our communities. I have seen how awareness can transform shame into strength, and how one voice can spark a movement.

Through my work with Thrive Empowerment Organization, I am committed to ending early child marriages and sexual violence in Zambia. We are creating safe spaces for dialogue, empowering survivors to rise, and pushing for policies that protect the rights and futures of girls and women.

To every woman and girl reading this: Your voice matters. Your story matters. And your silence does not define your worth.

We are the change — and we are just getting started.
