story
She is Jenny, and has not been able to further her education. She is from central Nigeria, She is 18 and has only been able to complete secondary school without a certificate. Her mom was married to her father gave birth to her and after some years the mom left the father because she could not live with him again. She got remarried and then sent Jenny to live with a relative who sent her through secondary level, she live like a slave in that home. In SS3 when she was to sit for her WAEC exams no one was willing to register her for the exam. She struggled to raise some amount to register for NECO and the Uncle asked her to give the money to him so he would register her for the exam. That was her mistake. Till date she has not written the exams and the money is no where. Jenny had been back and forth from her mom's to friends to boy Friends......
A friend's family she once lived with accused her of stealing and sent her out of their home she moved in with people around the area for a while got a job as a house help, that too didn't work so she left for home again. Now She is about loosing it because her step father want her to change her religion but she does not want that. "An idle mind is the devils work shop" they say,we don't want that for Jenny.
Permit me to say,if Jenny's biological parent were still together, She wouldn't have been in the state she is in now. We must teach our daughters to be independent and educated so that they can have a better home and grow their daughters to be better and our mothers need to be empowered so they can be strong to support their daughters. We are working on getting Jenny to write the exams and apply into a tertiary institution. Jenny has a life and a future she has to get there, we have to help her. And guide her to be a better parent when the time is right. Jenny's story is the reason why we must empower mothers and girls to stand and also have a voice so they can also rise someday to help others. Until every girl child is given a voice one at a time we won't stop speaking.
