Some years ago, I took a planned three-month personal business trip. During my business trip, many problems began to come up, delaying my return home. I wasn't prepared for the delay, and I had no control over the situation. With just a suitcase, limited cash, and no place to stay, I had no choice but to reach out to a childhood friend for shelter.

What should have been a simple 90-day personal business trip ended up lasting almost one year.

I was broke and broken open. One night, I was laying on the floor and began to cry. I felt so helpless, hopeless and without any resources to lift myself.

In the midst of my tears, I heard a voice say, "Everything you need is in your hand."

I looked around the room. There was no bed, no curtains, no chair, no dresser, no table, no cup, no plate, no spoon, no fork, NOTHING!

All I saw my suitcase, computer bag, laptop, and my phone. I turned on my laptop, connected to my hotspot, and posted an ad on a free site asking for unwanted items.

In about two weeks, my phone was ringing off the hook with offers of donations.

My trip had turned into an unplanned community effort of people and organizations offering help. During this time, I built new connections, made friends, and helped others. Thanks to this community network, I was able to send three containers of supplies to West Africa.

Years have since passed. And I have faced many mistakes and tough times in the country I now call home. I was betrayed by people I trusted. My land and property for the vision were stolen. My businesses were broken into. I was manipulated and attacked by those I once called friends.

I was hurt and depressed and felt like I had no one to turn to. Then, in the mist of my pain, my two sons decided to go back to the USA. That left only me and my 14-year-old daughter alone.

Hurt and wounded, I begin to spiral down. Then, one day months later, I made a decision to contend for my life, my family and my dream. and I chose to get up and turn my pain into a plan.

I looked at my vision again, and decided to focus on rebuilding.

In 2024, I started saving all the cash I could gather. I bought small piece of land and began building Elizabeth’s Place, a retreat house located in Abuja, Nigeria.

A soul-care retreat house that covers over 8,000 square feet and serves as a day retreat and overnight transformation and renewal place for women.
