Calling on the Sisters! (Please sign this petition)

Hi,

I have been immersed in a kaleidoscope of emotions. Sometimes I cry and get depressed for a day. Other times I am full of energy and find all these activist ideas. Many times, I feel like this is a hopeless battle that ends with "Rebecca 0 Misogyny 1" on the scoreboard.

The Issue: Rape advocacy by a Youth Minister in Uganda

The Mission: His resignation and the country's realization of accountability as well as the seriousness of rape as an issue we must deal with, on all levels.

To give you all the background;

Uganda's Youth Minister of State Ronald Kibuule was on September 24th reported in the media to have said at a gathering that if a woman was dressed "indecently" (he counted jeans, miniskirts, etc as "indecent dressing"), her intention was to get raped. He said that the victim was to blame. He also said that he had talked to the Police Chief and asked him to ask about dresscode every time a rape case was reported, and release the perpetrator because they were not at fault.

This is worrying on so many levels. But also, I would like you all to know that his office actually falls under the Ministry of Gender. We have not heard from the Ministry or the Police, on the issue. And the Parliament dismissed public outrage, saying that the Minister was expressing personal opinion and there is nothing to be said for that.

We want him to apologise, and resign. We also want the Ministry of Gender and the Uganda Police Force to issue statements stating exactly what their stance is on rape cases.
