Can You Go Too Low?



For people at high risk for heart attack and stroke, traditional wisdom dictates that, when it comes to blood pressure and LDL ("bad") cholesterol, the lower the better.



But very low blood pressure may be dangerous, according to researchers with the Treating to New Targets (TNT) trial. They analyzed medical information from over 10,000 patients with coronary artery disease and found that people with well controlled cholesterol but very high or very low blood pressure were more likely to have a heart attack or stroke than patients whose blood pressure was kept in the range of 130 to 140/70 to 80 mm Hg.
