Celebrating International Day of the Girl 2024

This International Day of the Girl is a cherished day in which we recognize girls globally. We celebrate that we have found each other and are able to be working together. We recognize, lift, keep safe, keep known the wisdom and work that has been and is being silenced. We challenge that the violence is still happening, the unpaid work being done, the continuing escalation of war, the ongoing forms of violence toward girls. Our information and wisdom is kept safe here, within the thousands of stories of women and girls.

We are accused of always speaking about women and girls and challenged: Is it all you care about?” I know this old and familiar challenge well, meant to guilt us, silence us, create mistrust of any of us who offer this focus, these moments of discussion with each other. We continue to call out globally for an end to all forms of violence toward girls everywhere. We have been calling this for centuries, and continue to call out the many forms of betrayal, naming them through our stories, keeping our work known, safe-guarding news throughout time of societies in which women were and are respected for what we do, and girls respected for who they are. The stories on World Pulse give us the gift of meeting each other, to be able to spark plans, celebrate and deepen our interwoven circles, as we find ways to work together. Our stories bring this chance to work together in this global home.

May we celebrate that we have these many interwoven circles within World Pulse and through our home communities. That we can meet here, women, girls and all gentle people who understand the need for us to continue to challenge our governments, our communities, our relationships with each other, to end every form of domination of and violence toward women and girls. May we bask in this moment to celebrate that we now have each other. 

We challenge why the violence has not stopped. On this day and every day we continue to experience so many years of broken promises, having been promised years such a long time ago that there would be an end to all of the violence. We speak out, witness to this violence still happening everywhere to billions of girls. We name it. We are threatened to stay silent, to accept the path forward being presented as the only way or face punishment. We challenge every form of violence.

Here within World Pulse we meet through our library of news as we create ways to interweave our work and celebrate our lives together.
