Coding for Change: Girls in Tech Workshops

Girls in Tech Workshops is a community-driven initiative designed to empower adolescent girls in Sharjah (aged 13–17) with essential technology skills—particularly in coding, app development, and AI. Through interactive workshops and creative storytelling, the program will spark a passion for technology, bridge the digital gender divide, and inspire girls to become problem-solvers and changemakers in their communities.

By integrating storytelling with hands-on digital education, this initiative aims to help girls see themselves not just as users of technology, but as creators, innovators, and leaders of tomorrow.

Why This Matters:

Despite living in a tech-advanced world, many adolescent girls still lack access, encouragement, and safe spaces to explore the world of programming and AI. Cultural norms, lack of role models, and limited school resources can all contribute to the gender gap in STEM.

In many parts of the world, we need more programs that not only teach coding but connect coding with purpose — making it clear that technology can be used to solve real-life problems, advocate for justice, and drive social change.

By launching this initiative, we aim to break stereotypes, plant seeds of confidence, and create a ripple effect that helps girls unlock their full potential.

How It Aligns with World Pulse:

This initiative directly embodies the World Pulse spirit: amplifying women's and girls' voices, fostering leadership, and using digital tools to create change. By encouraging girls to pair code with storytelling, we are not only teaching them to build — but to speak, share, and lead.

Each girl who completes the workshop will also be encouraged to write or record a reflection on World Pulse, sharing how learning to code has changed her perception of her power and her voice.

We also aim to run a second round of workshops with alumni participants leading segments—ensuring peer-to-peer mentorship and sustainable growth.
