Consitency over Perfection - Learning from my childminder

Today, I am observing the airplants that I received from a friend and planted three months

ago. My focus is on the smallest one, which I nurtured from broken pieces of

other airplants. I'm amazed at its growth. In this moment, I realize that these

airplants have thrived because of Gogo's consistent care. Gogo is my

childminder, an elderly woman we respect and cherish as a best friend.

The main

difference between Gogo and me is her unwavering consistency. Whether it's

cleaning the house, watering the garden, tending to the closets, or caring for

my son, Gogo is always reliable. Her standards might not always meet my

expectations, but she gets things done every day. In contrast,I approach tasks

with a drive for perfection. When I dedicate myself to something, I ensure it

turns out beautifully. However, when I plant seeds with care and dedication, I

water them diligently at first. But if I don't see immediate growth, I lose

faith and abandon my efforts. This isn't because progress isn't happening, but

because I convince myself that nothing is changing. This mindset consistently

leads to abandoned goals and the frustration of nearly achieving success but

falling short.

Gogo, on the other hand, never gives up. Even when a plant looks dead, she continues to

water it. I sometimes think she's being unrealistic, but in truth, she

understands the commitment required to see things through to fruition. Her

dedication results in a garden full of fresh, rich vegetables.

Imagine what could happen if I combined Gogo's consistency with my thoroughness?
