Corvid 19 The Masking of a Nation

Me, wearing my mak as life gets back to normal

Masked Up

Corvid 19, exploded  in 2020 and created a pandemic that is still wrecking economic havoc in 2022.

The response by each nation was similar but different in many ways. I'll never forget the impact it has had on my tiny Island.

Early 2020 we looked on in horror  as this invisible enemy roamed the streets of the huge global giants, sending death tolls skyrocketing, creating panic and fear  and economic mayhem.

It was almost like waiting your turn in a game of cricket, watching as others at the strike face the bowler. Our medical agencies scampered to get prepared as our alert chart went from orange to red

March of 2020 our frist case came through our airport doors undetected  and the  fear level reached overload. The number went from 1 to 3 that very same week and the response system kicked in, it began to climb and with our frist recorded death, and our country went into lock down.

On May 15th stay at home orders were issued and all places of business,  the boarders were locked, school s, places of worship, places of entertainment, sporting facilities, every where was shut except for the most necessary groceries, drugstores and medical facilities.

At one point even a state  of emergency was put into effect to restrict movement at night

Our ministry of health and frist responders stood like hero, s in PPP outfits, while the media avd polictical sharks swam in droves awaiting the next big story.

The economic fallout of such a measure has taken a heavy toll on our island, the persons most affected are the ones who, s voices are drowned out, while big businesses enjoy governments  subventions.

The wearing of mask, aside from being a tool of protection has also become a screen or cover of the realities most are experiencing. Many hide there pain of losing loved ones, who would have succumbed to this unexplainable virus, some mask the desperation that has been brought on, by the loss of a job, business, other sources of income or relationship.

We experienced  a  significant rise in domestic abuse cases, most ending in the loss of life for many women.

Corvid 19 also had some positive impacts as many new business ideas were birthed, that provided convent services delivered to your door, whether it was food, clothing and accessories or medical supplies. The online market grew and many opportunities to interact globally were accessed. The virtual platform became a beehive of activity.

Eventually the worst of the war is over, our no. s are dwindling, there are no deaths some days although our no.s were small compared to larger nations, even one death  is still significant to us.

Our medical agencies did well, and the majority of citizens can be applauded for rising to the occasion, providing support to each other and those most vulnerable. At one one time our medical authorities were globally recognised for its effort in the fight against Corvid 19 as we stood at no. 1 on the charts

Today  mask still prevail, even as our restriction s have been lifted and life slowly returns to normal after almost 3 years. Having been infected with a worst case of Corvid 19. myself, watching my children battle with it, having felt the economic backlash my own business has suffered, as entrepreneur, I truly  thank God for keeping me and for his provision.

I too wear a mask, because the real reality of this situation will not  be understood by those that don't walk in my shoes. I too felt the pain, she'd tears as loved ones and persons I knew fell victim to this pandemic. I too had to shelf plans, regroup, begin again, but I too persevere, I too continue to pursue purpose

What has Corvid 19 taught me.? Simple, live with passion and purpose. What has it taught you?

Corvid 19 I bid  you farewell , I wish you to a land of no return
