Covid 19 is real. Information must be accessible to all including those with hearing impairment.

When the corona virus pandemic started we watched it on TV and wept for those who lost their lives and affected families. Then it became uncontrolable. There have been massive sensitisation on all medias on this deadly virus. Good job to all those who have been doing their best to see that this virus is prevented. But then I became even more worried and sad because I situated myself in the place of persons with hearing impairment who could not have access to these beautiful messages. Then I decided it was time to do something about it in my community.

I trained one of my girls with hearing impairment and she was able to produce a video in Sign language. 

Secondly I also interpreted some videos myself and dramas.

I created a WhatsApp forum for these persons with hearing impairment where we could constandly share the videos so they get the messages.

To add a variety we also share picture messages on the virus. This has created a great impact as deaf persons even out of my region have asked to be included so they are not lost about any development on the pandemic.

Social distancing which is one of the major ways to prevent the spread of covid 19/ is always very difficult as mist of the time you need yo touch them to call their attention especially if you are coming from behind and therefore we always try to promote and enhance hygiene as a better option. It is based on this that we recently share face mask , sanitisers and liquid soap to some 32 persons with hearing impairment. Thanks to the socioeconomic empowerment for persons with disabilities of the Cameroon Baptist convention for the unmeasurable support.

I am also part of a team working with the Bamenda regional hospital which is the main hospital that cater for covid 19 in the NorthWest region of Cameroon on covid 19 . Our goal is to advocate for proper services for persons with disabilities incase they need services at the hospital. My role was to give proposals on proper services for persons with hearing impairment.

Am do proud of my world pulse sisters of the medical field who are at the front line doing their best to safe lives. Rest assured you are all in our thoughts and prayers. I love you all my world pulse sisters.
