CWE-TECH AND TAFARA COLLABORATION POWERS ON..

Last week, our organization — Centre for Women Empowerment in Technology (CWE-Tech) — had the wonderful privilege of hosting a powerful virtual session with our Binti Shupavu Scholars and Nomsa Teera, a counselor from Tafara Wellness Initiative in South Africa. Tafara is the amazing organization with whom we were honored to carry out a Collaborative Initiative Award supported by our friends at World Pulse.

The session, held via Google Meet, was both interactive and inspiring. Our scholars were thrilled to connect with Nomsa, engaging her with thoughtful questions and insightful reflections. The workshop focused on Boundaries, Trauma, and Resilience, providing a safe and empowering space for learning and open conversation.

Some of the key lessons our scholars learned included:

🔹 Understanding trauma - causes such as bullying and family conflict, signs like anxiety, sadness, anger, and lack of sleep.

🔹 Healthy ways of healing - speaking to someone, journaling, prayer, exercise, or expressive arts such as painting, poetry, or dance.

🔹 Boundaries & consent - my body, my boundaries: NO means NO. I have the right to choose what I am comfortable with.

🔹 Resilience - the ability to bounce back after hard times by treating yourself with care and finding what makes you feel safe.

🔹 Red flags & safe spaces - knowing when a secret feels wrong to keep and understanding where safety lies.

It was truly an empowering session that gave our scholars practical tools for emotional well-being and personal growth.
