Does violence against women cause war?

The correlation between armed conflict and other forms of violence against women is well documented, and gender based violence is often discussed as a "weapon of war" and a consequence of conflict. This Daily Beast article poses an interesting question:

"What if we have it the wrong way around? What if violence against women is not a by-product of war, but rather a major cause of it?"
