The round table conference of Sudanese political forces is expected to be held in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, in the first week of next July. Informed sources suggested that the work of the conference, which the Egyptian government called for, the main political forces and armed movements in Sudan, will begin on July 7, and Egypt will host the conference, with the aim of reaching an agreement. There is an agreement between the various political forces on ways to build comprehensive and lasting peace in Sudan, through a Sudanese-Sudanese national dialogue, based on a purely Sudanese vision. It organizes this conference as a continuation of its ongoing efforts and endeavors to stop the ongoing war in Sudan, and within a framework of cooperation and integration with the efforts of partners. Regional and international parties, especially Sudan’s neighboring countries, the parties to the Jeddah talks, the United Nations, the African Union, the League of Arab States, and IGAD. It looks forward to the active participation of all Sudanese civil political forces, relevant regional and international partners, and joined efforts to ensure the success of the conference in achieving the aspirations of the Sudanese people.


The Egyptian call comes from a firm belief that the current conflict in Sudan is essentially a Sudanese issue, and that any future political process should include all active national parties on the Sudanese scene, and within the framework of respecting the principles of Sudan’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity, non-interference in its internal affairs, and preserving On the state and its institutions, and the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs had previously said that the goal of the conference is to reach consensus between the various political forces on ways to build comprehensive and lasting peace, through a Sudanese national dialogue based on a purely Sudanese vision.

The conference is expected to discuss ways to find rapprochement between the political forces on stopping the war and building comprehensive peace. Multiple parties are counting on the success of the Cairo conference to end the country’s crisis, and some believe that the chances of the conference’s success are very high, given the balanced Egyptian role in dealing with the Sudanese crisis, in addition to communications and diplomatic movements. And the policy that Egypt has undertaken with all parties in anticipation of holding the conference in a way that helps ensure success. Egypt and its leadership are considered the most capable in the regional and international environment to deal with Sudan’s issues and files, given the close connection between the two countries and the historical dimensions. These political forces call on Sudan to uphold the language of Dialogue and consensus in order to build a comprehensive and lasting peace in Sudan that meets the aspirations of the people of Sudan towards stability and development. Observers believe that the chances of the conference’s success appear great if the conference is able to move away from discussing controversial issues on which it is impossible for the Sudanese political forces to reach consensus and focus on the issue of Stopping the war and how to manage and design a political process through which the country will go through the transitional period.

Sources confirmed that participation in the conference will be on the basis of political parties and armed movements and not blocs or alliances. They added that the invitation was sent to the parties of the Sudanese Congress, the National Nation, the Federal Assembly, the Federal Origin, the Baath, the Federal National Party, in addition to the Sudan Liberation Movement led by Minni Arko. Minawi, the Sudan Liberation Movement, the Transitional Council, the Justice and Equality Movement led by Jibril Ibrahim, the Popular Movement, the Revolutionary Current, the Sudan Liberation Forces Rally, and the Sudanese Justice and Equality Movement, led by Suleiman Sandal. She also indicated that the invitation was also sent to the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement - North, led by Abdel Aziz. Al-Hilu and the Sudan Liberation Movement led by Abdel Wahid Nour, but the two movements have not announced their position on the call until now. The sources added that the goal of the conference is to declare a unified position to stop the war, and that the conference will last for one day only.

It is expected that the upcoming conference will be the first opportunity to bring together Sudanese political forces since the outbreak of war in the country, and many are counting on it considering that Egypt is capable of playing a decisive role in ending the war in Sudan, as it is considered the closest in stature and ability to influence the Sudanese at various levels, and it is worth Pointing out the great roles played by the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Sudan in facilitating the Sudanese people, the assistance it provides, and the great praise and appreciation that Ambassador Hani Salah enjoys.
