Mushfika Zannat Nishat, a passionate social activist and the co-founder of Sombhabona, a pioneering social organization dedicated to sustainable development, employment generation, and the empowerment of women and youth. Since 2008, I have been working tirelessly to improve the lives of underprivileged communities in Bangladesh, with a particular focus on creating opportunities for the most vulnerable.

Under my leadership, Sombhabona has developed innovative social business models that have transformed lives and contributed to poverty eradication. We run several impactful projects, including a free school, an ICT training center, and a skill development program. One of our flagship initiatives, Onondito Naree, provides tailoring training to deprived women and employs over 100 of them in a mini garment factory, offering sustainable livelihoods for both factory-based and home-based workers. My efforts have also connected women artisans from remote areas, fostering economic empowerment and independence for these women.

Through our ICT center, Sombhabona offers free training to disadvantaged youth, helping them develop technical skills and secure employment as freelancers. This initiative has not only enabled young people to achieve financial independence but also strengthened the organization’s sustainable revenue streams. The profits from these ventures are reinvested into education and skill development programs, further supporting marginalized communities.

My work extends beyond economic empowerment, as I am also committed to peacebuilding by addressing poverty and inequality, which are critical to preventing conflict. This holistic approach to development has impacted over 100,000 people, including women, youth, and children, leading to both individual and community-level transformation.

My contributions to social development have been recognized with numerous awards, including honors from the Bangladesh Government’s Youth Development Authority and the Joy Bangla Youth Award. My journey as a social activist and development professional reflects my deep commitment to building a more equitable and sustainable society for all.
