Empowering Futures: Pushpokoli School and Sombhabona’s Journey in Education

A group of four girls from pushpokoli school —Khukumoni, Sayma, Sarika, and Mehjabeen—proudly introduce their team, Jupiter, and present a beautiful model showing how day and night occur on Earth.

In a small corner of Bangladesh, children who once thought education was beyond their reach now walk into classrooms with bright eyes and hopeful hearts. This is the story of Pushpokoli School, an initiative under the umbrella of Sombhabona, a social organization devoted to creating a more equal and sustainable future.

I have always believed that education is more than lessons on paper—it is dignity, freedom, and the foundation of a peaceful society. At Sombhabona, we dreamt of a place where underprivileged children could study without the burden of fees, where a girl who never held a book could dream of becoming a teacher, and where a boy working to support his family could find the courage to imagine a different life. Pushpokoli School was born from that dream.

Here, children not only learn to read and write but also to express, create, and lead. We provide free textbooks, uniforms, and even warm winter clothes to protect them in the harsh cold. Beyond academics, students are introduced to ICT, arts, and vocational training—skills that prepare them for real employment opportunities. By using tools like Sheba Shikkha management software, we ensure every student’s journey is tracked, guided, and nurtured.

But what makes Pushpokoli School special is not just the facilities—it is the spirit. These children learn the value of teamwork, resilience, and kindness. They dream together, fall together, rise together, and remind us every day that when hope is planted, miracles grow.

One of my favorite recent moments was watching our students present their General Science projects. If you know Bangla, you can understand their story directly in the video—but even if you don’t, you will feel the passion shining through.

In the video, a group of four girls—Khukumoni, Sayma, Sarika, and Mehjabeen—proudly introduce their team, Jupiter, and present a beautiful model showing how day and night occur on Earth. Each group worked on different topics, but this team’s creativity stood out. They built their project with their own hands and explained it with such confidence that I felt an overwhelming sense of pride. Their work was not just about science—it was a celebration of possibility, of what children can achieve when given the chance to learn, imagine, and shine.

Over the years, Sombhabona has touched the lives of more than 100,000 people through education, skill development, and women empowerment programs. Pushpokoli School stands at the heart of this impact, proving that real change begins with a child’s dream.

Sometimes I think—this is not just a school. It is a movement. A safe space where little hands write the future of Bangladesh. And every time I see them smile, I am reminded: our small steps can create big ripples of change.
