Empowering Girls Through Family Support: A Monthly Initiative by Sombhabona

At Sombhabona, we believe that true empowerment begins at home. While education is a powerful tool for change, the emotional and moral support from families plays a critical role in helping girls break the cycle of poverty and inequality. With this understanding, Sombhabona has launched a monthly initiative to actively involve families—especially parents—in our mission to educate and empower girls.

About the Initiative

Every month, Sombhabona organizes a "Family Empowerment and Awareness Meeting" for the parents and guardians of our students. These sessions are designed to build trust, provide updates on student progress, and most importantly, encourage families to be positive, understanding, and supportive of their daughters’ educational journeys.

Currently, Sombhabona serves:

  • 200 students in our free school section, and
  • 200 students enrolled in our ICT training center.

Most of these students come from deprived and marginalized communities where girls’ education is often not prioritized. Our meetings challenge social norms, debunk myths, and educate families on the long-term value of keeping their daughters in school or technical training.

Objectives

  1. Raise Awareness: Educate families about the importance of girls' education and their rights.
  2. Encourage Support: Motivate parents to become cheerleaders for their daughters' academic and personal growth.
  3. Build Relationships: Create a strong triangle of communication between the student, school, and family.
  4. Sustain Progress: Reduce school dropout rates by ensuring families are actively engaged and invested.

Mission

To create a community-driven support system where families act as catalysts for their daughters’ success, thereby enabling girls to achieve their full potential through education and skill development.

Vision

We envision a future where every girl is empowered not only through books and skills but also through the unwavering support of her family. A future where families are allies in the fight for gender equity, lifting their daughters toward a life of dignity, freedom, and opportunity.

At Sombhabona, we don’t just educate girls—we transform communities by changing mindsets, one family at a time.
