Empowering Nontech Girls/Women Get Trained in IC/Technology Skills

First of all, i want to appreciate Kirthi 💖here on World Pulse who encouraged me to create this Initiative after reading my submission story on World Pulse - Girls in ICT Day.

Like i said in my story, Agwammawomen outreach Africa has different sections of our Project/Program focus. Our ICT/Technology Skills Training workshop kicked off with a Remote Training Workshop bringing in Women from different parts of the world not just Africa. This idea also was as a result of one simple post i made in a - Black women Tech Group on Facebook.

Take a look on my post in that Group on the 7th of November 2022. (The post is still there in that group as of time i wrote this initiative).

●There are non tech women who are interested in getting into technology but don't know where to start.

On the other hand, those who send out opportunities to teach/train these non tech women complicates the whole process without considering that such women have no clue the terms used in technology world.

I am open to work/partner with women here who are patient enough to invite NONTECH women interested to learn from the SCRATCH step by step.

If you are such a woman, get intouch so we brainstorm on how we can help nontech women get into tech world.🙏●

Now, let me also include just 2. immediate responses from women in this same group after my post. Both women are based in the United states of America.

1. You are a true blessing!! This is what women empowerment looks like!!! I’ve seen some actually want to help others and then you have others who brush you off bc “they don’t have time to be teaching anyone anything“  I am one of those non tech women, I’d love to learn!! 😊

2. Yes! So many times we are scared to ask questions because we get the response that we should do our research. I can't research what I don't even know exists? I can't say what area I want to go into if I don't even know what these fields are called or what the titles and jub duties are. This stuff is like learning a foreign language and thats before you even get to learning any programming languages 😆.

Why did i create that post in the first place?

As a Media personality and Women Empowerment advocate, i have come in contact with different Sites promoting Women in Stem and Technology. Since this is one area my Gender advocacy is interested in, i always investigate on their activities, on how women and Girls benefits from their programs.

I discovered most of these Women Tech companies creates high profile events, projects/programs that only high profile women in same tech/ICT world could afford to attend. To me, i kept wondering, if these organizations/companies keep revolving their projects/peograms among themselves, what then happens to millions of Girls/women scattered around the world looking for opportunities to break into the ICT/TECHNOLOGY industry? How then can more women be functional in the present technology world? 🤔

Since i belong to a Women related Tech group on Facebook, i decided to reach out to see if there are women who feel same way like I do that can join me help our nontech sisters learn. That post generated 443 responses from nontech women hungry to break into the ICT and Technology market and have been hoping, some day an opportunity could open for them to learn.

That suprised me because, i thought most women in that group were mostly Tech/Ict Experts/Professionals. So instead of me getting responses mostly from Experts, which was what i asked for, i got nontech Sisters responses. The plan was to get Volunteer Trainers first before reaching out to our nontech sisters because, i can't help the nontech women without volunteer expert Trainers.

I am creating this initiative here on World Pulse with the intention to continue with my Training Workshop. We still have thousands of women not just in Africa but around the world seeking for such opportunities.

Two years when i had that workshop my nonprofit had no presence in Malawi because, i made it open to every woman interested to learn which was why, i had more women from the United states. Now, i also thought- If more women in a country like America could be interested in such program, we can then imagine the dilemma and hunger for Girls/women in developing African countries.

*After the 2years of conducting this virtual workshop and now have a Team on ground in Malawi, i am creating this initiative to help the girls/women in Malawi learn basic ICT/DIGITAL/TECHNOLOGY Skills both remote and in Person*

So this initiative welcomes ICT/TECH experts willing to collaborate with me train nontech women in Malawi both virtually and in person.

This Initiative is crucial because, we have in our Community projects/programs campaigns, where social media plays huge role in creating more and fastest awareness thereby impacting more girls/women to get into the industry.

You have a situation where most Grown ups in Malawi struggle with DIGITAL Apps, SOCIAL MEDIA Apps to conduct virtual meetings. If they have knowledge of ICT and Digital skills, our campaigns and outreach programs will be easier no matter where we are communicating from. This will also enable most of them jobless to do online jobs to earn income. For those who want to open E-commerce website, or sell their products online, they can do these easily because they have ICT and Tech skills. All these will impact their lives positively 🤗

Note: We welcome both males/females Tech Experts. During our Workshop 2years, we had a Fantastic Male Expert on Python development program from Toronto Canada.

I will stop here for now and, as we progress, i will be updating this Initiative. 💌👩‍💻
