empowering the young girls forced to marry and we helped them find meaning inlife

Greetings  from Uganda  I'm missionary sister of Mary mother of the church a community counselor and doing  some empowerment to  the  girls  and women to make sure  that  they live  sustainable lives and justice is upheld in their lives.

I work in  Northern Uganda in Lira  District. We  saw the plight  of the  women, girls and  children   after   the war and it’s  aftermath was not good. So we decided  to open a counseling  and rehabilitation center  which we used for   counseling  and empowering some women who were victims of abductions and they were able to  recover  from PTSD and  they began a registered  community  Based organisation  called Yesu  Twero  women initiative group.to empower their fellow women and show them that things can be possible with justice and peace.

This CBOempowers  the Women, girls  and  children (COMMUNITY) who are born in captivity  and are not integrated in the community. They have stigma, no sense of belonging  and  even  most of them  could not afford  going to school. As a result  some girls were forced into marriages early while others  and children were  trafficked.

We managed to get  these survivors of war and the trafficked  women and  we helped them to address  their challenges that make them vulnerable  to trafficking and skilled  them.  we provided them  counseling, created awareness made them leaders, helped them  to for know their  dignity  and values and make them become responsile parents, good christins, and good citizens.

Some girls were looking at themselves as misfortune while  some  decided  to marry very young and yet they could not manage marriage life.  Some girls suffered domestic violence in the hands of their husbands.

We give adults learning literacy  leadership skills ,  kitchen  Agriculture and empower them to know their rights for protection and health care after giving  birth to their children. These women and girls suffer  physical, psychological and  mental challenges  because  they lack  social support from their husbands or community.

After training and skilling them,we provide them with some start-up materials like  sewing machines and material for soapmaking   but  they need  the bicycles to transport  their products to the  market  due to the distance and  also be self reliant.  So our Emphasis is to  empower them  to be self-reliant     so that they educate their children ,feed them well and give them the physiological needs child protection  to build  their esteem and of their children. We emphasize  on peace ,  justice because  sometimes they feel stigmatised or lose hope in life  because of their situations.

For the trafficked women rescued, Some of them thought  they would get better pastures but when they come back they have a lot of stigma , not accepted, shame, depression ,loss of hope and no meaning in life because they have not succeeded in life. We have to give them some  shelter or keep them as they await counseling  and even  treatment.  Moving out can be  traumatising or awaiting to go to the police and write their statement. We actually want to get some transport for their privacy.

Some have children or are pregnant and are Contemplating abortion or sucicide   so we help them  through well wishers  to provide them with food or shelter. These  kind of girls are very many we are requesting if you  can help  us find some good hearted people to give us  some   support so that we continue  to  empower  these women more because the community has more challenges which is making some children whose  parents were born in captivity  to struggle with  life and some have resorted to being in the streets .These are the children whose mothers were are empowering  and resetting them with their parents.on our side as sisters we want to empower them but we lack space we have land butbuilding to keep them some girls are kidnaped fom the places that we thing are safe.we need a fance we are in the open.

Even at lease a car to transport them to the hospital and back as we keep their preivacy

We shall  be grateful if we work  together and find ways to support  these girls and their children.we are social workers, counselors and clinical psychologist and child activist who are doing this humble job.

Thank you Sister  Florence-
