Even In THIS ECONOMY, You’ve Got to Have Boundaries

The pressure is real right now. You hear every week about another company laying off employees and the thought starts creeping in, “could I be next?” Budgets shrink, prices climb, and suddenly you’re in survival mode - cut off from your own sovereignty.

But here’s the truth: when the pressure rises, the ones that get taken advantage of first are the ones that can’t say “no.” They’re the ones that take on too much work, say yes to extra projects… try to show their worth by over extending themselves. You think it’s a survival tactic, but it’s straight road to h… I mean, to burnout. Losing your boundaries in times of pressure doesn’t make you any safer, despite what the lizard brain might be telling you.

THE COST OF DROPPING BOUNDARIES

When you let boundaries slip, there’s always a cost - and it shows up in three places:

  1. Professional cost: Saying yes to everything means your impact gets diluted. You’re busy, but not strategic.
  2. Personal cost: Resentment builds, your energy tanks, and your confidence erodes.
  3. Economic cost: In uncertain times, those without boundaries are the ones who get stretched thinnest, burn out fastest, and often become replaceable because you’re out here spinning your wheels instead of getting focused.

QUICK BOUNDARY CHECK-IN

Boundaries aren’t luxuries. They’re strategic success skills - and they’re also what make your contribution sustainable and magnetic.

If you’re wondering whether your boundaries are holding up under pressure, ask yourself:

  1. Do I end most days with energy left - or completely depleted?
  2. Am I clear on which tasks are mine, or do I absorb whatever lands on my plate?
  3. When someone asks more of me, do I respond with intention and self-leadership - or reflexively say “yes”?
  4. Do my “yeses” align with my long-term goals, or just keep me afloat short-term?
  5. Do others respect my boundaries, or do I feel them constantly being pushed?

If too many answers lean toward depletion, reflex, or misalignment, your boundaries have been slipping and you’re losing alignment with your values.

BOUNDARIES ARE A SUCCESS STRATEGY

Boundaries are not walls, they are the frame that supports everything you build. Your boundaries support you in a powerful way and allow you to use that power toward the impact you desire to create. Your boundaries create focus and keep your energy and creativity from getting dispersed and fragmented. Your boundaries create respect by showing others that you have standards for your time and energy. Your boundaries create sustainability, so you can keep showing up (no matter what happens) and keep moving forward.

And most importantly, your boundaries make your “yes” 10x more powerful. When you protect your “no,” your “yes” becomes intentional, magnetic, and high-impact. That’s what moves you forward even in the toughest climates.

THE INVITATION

The truth is, your boundaries either fuel your future - or the lack of them will drain it. And in this economy, you can’t afford the drain.

This is why I coach heart-led professionals inside my Living Yesfully practice. Together, we build boundaries that actually stick - boundaries that allow you to thrive, protect your energy, and make your “yes” one of your most powerful tools.

If you’re ready for boundaries that align with your goals and amplify your impact, I’d love to talk.
