Every migrant carries a story. Ours deserve to be told — not erased.

Highlighting the risks and exploitation faced by young migrant domestic workers.

My little sister had to leave school at just 15 because I couldn’t afford her exam fees. In 2018, she came to South Africa to work as a domestic worker. She was still very young and vulnerable.

During those years, she faced many challenges. She worked long hours for very little pay and lived with constant fear. After two years, she had to leave her job because the husband of the house began harassing her.

Her story reflects the hidden struggles that many young migrant women face: leaving home too early, working in unsafe conditions, and having no one to protect them. It breaks my heart to see how the lack of legal documentation and social support can put them at risk.

That is why I’ve chosen to speak up. Through education, storytelling, and community initiatives, I want to raise awareness about the hidden lives of migrant women and children. I want to create safe spaces where they can be seen, heard, and supported — not judged or criminalized.

My journey is still unfolding, but I believe our voices can build bridges where borders once divided us. Because no woman should ever have to lose her dignity or her dreams just for crossing a line on a map.
