Finding My Community of Female Earth Stewards

I have been involved in co-launching an organization for ecologically focused women around the globe. It is called Damiana, after a small but powerful flower. Our story started when I met Alexa in Mexico on a women's retreat. We found out she was born on the same day as my daughter and between us, we had 100 years of life experience. We were two generations apart. We lived in the two countries straddling the dominant USA - Mexico and Canada. We started talking about what was important to us.

1. Practicing care with Mother Earth
2. Supporting women doing resilience and restoration work
3. Building visibility and impact so we became unstoppable.
4. Reciprocity - giving back to Mother Earth for all she has given us and to each other as women

We hoped we might both live to see a saner way of relating to the planet as humans. We knew women had always been leading in this, and we needed to get behind these women.

We wanted other eco-women to be able to share our anguish, delights, passions, disappointments, triumphs, and commitments in a safe live space. We wanted to practice reciprocity so our work would remain sustainable. We would not allow each other to burn out because the work is too important . we would caution and soothe each other especially at times when it seems as if no one is listening. We would create a beautiful sustainable infrastructure of care for women earth stewards.

Over the last two years, we are slowly building our intergenerational community of global women doing eco and culture building work. Alexa is the founder. We have a council of 7 incredibly dedicated women. We invited 20 women from 15 different countries to start with us. Many are artists. We have now amazing women lined up to share their knowledge and lived experiences for the next few years, and a fascinating resource library. We are all stewarding Mother Earth in uniquely different ways. I am proud finally that I am doing something unique, powerful and hopefully very impactful in my elder years. Damiana is a globally-focused organization building care infrastructure for women leading ecological regeneration.
