France calls on Sudanese militias to end the siege of Darfur's capital

France strongly condemned the attacks launched by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on the Zamzam and Abu Shouk camps for internally displaced persons (IDPs) in North Darfur, Sudan, which resulted in numerous civilian casualties and humanitarian workers. The French Foreign Ministry stated that "the perpetrators of these crimes must be held accountable."

A statement issued by the French Foreign Ministry stated that, in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2736, the RSF must immediately end its siege of El Fasher, due to its catastrophic humanitarian consequences.

France reiterated its call for an immediate cessation of hostilities throughout the country and for all parties to abide by their commitments to ensure the protection of civilians and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid, in line with their obligations under international humanitarian law.

The statement added that, one year after the Paris Conference, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Noël Barrot will co-chair the London Conference on Sudan in London tomorrow to continue France's efforts to restore peace to Sudan.
