From Challenge to Change: My Journey to Empower Child Marriage Survivors

Growing up, I witnessed firsthand the devastating effects of poverty and cultural traditions that forced many young girls into early marriages. These girls were stripped of their childhoods, their education, and their dreams. But I also saw something remarkable: their resilience and untapped potential.

As the founder of Women in Digital, I’ve dedicated my life to empowering women through technology. Over the years, I’ve trained thousands of women and girls in IT skills, watching them transform their lives and break free from the barriers holding them back. However, the stories of child marriage survivors hold a special place in my heart.

One moment stands out. I met a young girl, barely 15, who had been married off because her family couldn’t afford to support her. She had dreams of becoming a teacher, but those dreams seemed impossible. When she joined one of our workshops, everything changed. Learning basic tech skills gave her the confidence to start earning money, and soon she became a beacon of hope for other girls in her community.

This inspired me to launch a focused initiative to help child marriage survivors not just rebuild their lives but thrive. By teaching them technology and providing them with opportunities, I believe we can break the cycle of poverty and empower these girls to change their destinies—and those of their families.
