Gender Equality: Not Just a Goal, But a Right.

Leadership knows no gender, yet in Zambia, the seats of power remain mostly reserved for men. Why are women still sidelined, and what will it take to change the narrative?

For the longest time, I’ve been very observant about how most women and girls are treated especially in education, in work places and in society in general. Women and girls are often excluded from various aspects of daily life activities like decision making, leadership roles, education and so on. I’m a passionate gender equality advocate, who would like to take the first step to make sure I see the change with the way women and girls are treated in our society. I strongly believe women and girls are the driving force of economic development of my country. I run an advocacy page called @HERfluence where I make awareness of gender inequality in my country and in society.

Women are excluded from leadership roles because of lack of confidence in women’s leadership roles because of societal stereotypes as well as intimidation from the male figure.

Women also lack mentorship and networking opportunities with women in leadership which makes it difficult for them to be inspired to take up leadership roles in politics or workplaces.

I look to speak for the women and girls who are unable to speak for themselves. I look to work towards making sure policies that promote gender equality in leadership, in education, in politics and many more areas. Increasing financial support and trainings programs for women and girls.
