Gulu entry 1

This afternoon I had an entry composed, when my wireless went out and I lost it. Darn! I had written a bit on the backgroung of why I believe as a mother it is so important that I am rearing global citizens. My husband and I believe it is our duty and consider it a challenge and honor to do.

We choose to educate our kids by sharing the reality of life on a global scale. They have traveled to play on the streets of Nepal w/ children, as their mothers and I sat drinking tea. They have traveled to bring joy to those dying in a home created by Mother Teresa. Walked the streets in Cambodia to meet young girls who have been granted life outside the sex trade...the next trip, Uganda.

Because of our modest income, I am only able to take one of my boys with me on this trip. I dream of the day I am able to take my family. In 2 weeks, I will lead a team of 8 college students, my son (6 years old), another mother and her son (also 6).

We will spend 3 weeks with the children of Jolly Okot's HEALS program. It is a facility that provides a much needed "play" escape for children of wartorn N. Uganda.

If you are familar with the area in or aroung Gulu, UG, I'd love to hear from you. I was there last year for a little over 3 weeks and am excited to return.

As I reread my words, I am sad that my earlier post is gone. It was much more heart felt and interesting, really. It is past time for me to be sleeping and I've been sorting out details for this upcoming trip, a final paper for graduation, inbetween scrabble games w/ my boys and attending a local christmas production today.

I'll have to write about my dream of mother and child connection soon. I believe that it is by rearing a new generation of global citizens that the world will have no choice, but to change!
