How fake news and misinformation affect peace?

As part of the ongoing efforts to strengthen dialogue, trust, and resilience within communities from the left bank of the Dniester River, a dedicated training session was successfully conducted on the topic “How fake news and misinformation affect peace.”

The training brought together community representatives, local leaders, and active citizens to explore the growing impact of misinformation on social cohesion and conflict dynamics. Participants were introduced to the key concepts of fake news, disinformation, and information manipulation, as well as the ways these phenomena can deepen divisions, fuel mistrust, and undermine peacebuilding efforts.

Through interactive discussions, practical exercises, and real-life examples, participants developed critical thinking skills and learned how to identify unreliable sources, verify information, and respond constructively to misleading narratives. Special attention was given to the role of media literacy in preventing the spread of harmful content and promoting responsible information sharing within communities.

The session also encouraged open dialogue on local challenges and experiences related to misinformation, building mutual understanding and strengthening the capacity of participants to act as informed and responsible communicators.

This activity represents an important step in enhancing community resilience against disinformation and contributes to the broader goal of building sustainable peace and cooperation across the region.
