It All Began With One Question
“Aunty, is it true that if a boy shakes my hand during my period, I’ll get pregnant?”
That innocent question stopped me in my tracks during one of our menstrual health outreaches in a rural community in Nigeria. The young girl who asked it was barely 13, her eyes wide with genuine fear.
That moment changed me.
In that moment, I realized something powerful: our girls aren’t just missing pads, they’re missing information.
And that’s how Ms. Flow was born.
Our girls were bleeding in silence, surrounded by myths, shame, and fear.
That day, I made a promise to myself and to them:
“I will build something that answers your questions, anytime, anywhere.”
That promise became Ms. Flow.
Meet Ms. Flow — The AI Friend Who talks About Periods
Ms. Flow is an AI-powered WhatsApp chat assistant I developed under Motherhood NG Initiative (MNI) to bridge the menstrual knowledge gap for teenage girls in Nigeria.
She’s not an app hidden behind data walls or complex downloads.
She lives right where girls already are, on WhatsApp, the most familiar chat space in Nigeria.
Girls can simply text:
“Hi Ms. Flow, I just saw blood. What’s happening to me?”
And Ms. Flow responds, gently, respectfully, and accurately.
She explains what menstruation is, how to stay clean, what to do when cramps hurt, and even how to track their cycle, all in simple, culturally sensitive language.
She’s available 24/7, free to use, and soon, she’ll speak Nigerian languages like Yoruba, Hausa, and Igbo.

Why Ms. Flow Matters
In Nigeria, millions of girls are excluded from education and confidence simply because of menstruation.
Some miss school for 3–5 days every month.
Others grow up believing dangerous myths that menstruation is dirty or shameful.
Many never receive proper guidance, even from home, because it’s considered a “taboo topic.”
At Motherhood NG Initiative, we’ve run health outreaches for years, teaching girls about reproductive health. But one outreach at a time wasn’t enough.
Technology gave us a voice that could scale.
And empathy gave that technology a heart.
That’s the story of Ms. Flow — AI with empathy.
Building Ms. Flow: When Innovation Meets Purpose
I’m not a software engineer. I’m a Human Resource professional, Project Manager, mother, and social innovator who believes that technology should serve humanity.
I learned how to leverage AI tools and chat automation to build Ms. Flow, a virtual menstrual educator that combines artificial intelligence and emotional intelligence.
Ms. Flow was born from my desire to merge technology, education, and compassion into one digital solution.
Because innovation doesn’t always start in a lab, sometimes, it starts in a community hall, with a girl’s question and a woman’s determination to answer it.

The Impact So Far
Since our pilot phase launch:
Hundreds of teenage girls have chatted with Ms. Flow.
Teachers and community health leaders are using her in menstrual hygiene classes.
Parents are reporting more confidence and openness from their daughters.
And the most rewarding moments are the messages we receive daily:
“Ms. Flow told me it’s okay to talk about my period.”
“Now I understand why I feel cramps.”
“I’m not ashamed anymore.”
Each chat represents a girl stepping out of silence into self-awareness.
Our vision Ahead
We’re expanding Ms. Flow to reach 50,000 girls by 2026 through:
School and community partnerships
Data-supported access for girls in low-connectivity areas
Translation into local languages
Integration of mental health and body confidence support
We’re inviting sponsors, partners, and changemakers who believe in tech for good and girls’ empowerment to join this mission.
Because every girl deserves to understand her body, not with fear, but with pride.
Beyond Technology: A Movement of Hope
For me, Ms. Flow is not just innovation; she’s a movement for menstrual dignity.
She’s proof that AI can be kind, and that empathy and technology can coexist beautifully.
Every time a girl types “Hi Ms. Flow,” I see hope typing back.
I see a future where no girl misses school because of her period, where menstrual education is free and inclusive, and where technology speaks the language of compassion.
This is what drives me as an innovator, mother, and advocate for girls’ well-being.
Because when girls understand their bodies, they stop hiding and start leading.
