How Mamynysoa Association Took Action to Protect Our Community

In our rural community called "Isahafa", a remote village, roads are more than just paths; they are a part of daily life. Children use them to get to school, parents use them to go to work or to the market, and families walk them every day. But during the rainy season, these roads become dangerous.

When it rains, the roads turn muddy and slippery. Many children are forced to take off their shoes and walk barefoot through the mud just to reach school. It’s unsafe, uncomfortable, and puts them at risk of getting sick or injured.

Our association, Mamynysoa, knew something had to be done and quickly.

With just two months before the heavy rains, MamynySoa Association took the initiative to rent a road compactor for two days. The goal was to improve the worst parts of the road to make them safer for everyone, especially children.

When I first shared our small action on my Facebook page, I honestly wasn’t sure how people would react. But the positive feedback and encouragement I received gave me courage. It reminded me that even small community-led efforts matter and that sharing our stories can inspire others to take action too.

But we didn’t act alone.

This effort was made possible through collaboration with the municipality and the local road rehabilitation committee. Together, we filled the road with debris to level and support the most damaged sections before compacting them. It was a temporary solution, but it made a real difference.

After the work, children could walk more safely, and families felt a sense of relief. The compacted debris helped stabilize the path and made it passable at least for now.

Thanks to the support and encouragement from World Pulse, Mamynysoa Association has grown more confident and capable in taking bold steps to protect women and girls in our community. In Isahafa, like many rural villages, women often carry the heaviest burdens walking long distances to fetch water, take children to school, or seek medical care. Poor road conditions especially affect pregnant women, young girls, and mothers with small children, putting their health and safety at risk. Through World Pulse’s platform and resources, we gained the visibility, voice, and sense of responsibility to act not only to fix a road, but to challenge the systems that keep women vulnerable. This road work is more than a physical improvement; it’s a statement that women’s safety and dignity matter, and that local leadership especially by women can drive real, meaningful change.

However, this is only the beginning.

The road is still fragile, and with each rainy season, the damage gets worse. We urgently need a long-term, sustainable solution one that involves proper engineering and construction. That’s why Mamynysoa association is actively looking for partners and sponsors who can help us rebuild this road in a safer, more durable way. Our community is ready to work, and we have already proven that even small actions can lead to big change. But we need support to go further. If you know someone, an individual, organization, or company who might be willing to help or sponsor this important work, please let us know.

At Mamynysoa, we believe that when communities, women leadership, local authorities, and supporters work together, anything is possible. This road is not just about transport, it’s about access to education, health, safety, and dignity.
