I am Glad it was Me

story
I am glad it was me to endure public education when Indigenous children were not treated fairly. I am glad it was me who had my feelings hurt because I refused to believe I wasn't good enough or as smart. I am glad it was me living in Canada talking of Indigenous teachings, state of Reservations and mentioning the Residential School experience before the apology made it mentionable in this land. I am glad it was me having these experiences of being told "no" continously for it taught me a better way. To make my own path. I am glad it was me because it has made me the most interesting and dynamic person. By learning to be me. I could change the way children are treated in school by speaking truth which creates harmony. I am glad it was me when words were used hurtfully to keep me second guessing myself. I'm glad it was me to say 'no more.' I am glad it was me that felt the pain of history, so the next generation would not have to feel they were not important. I am glad it was me to see newness, change and resolution through expression encouraging individuals to find own talent. I am glad it was me to embrace stories, yours and mine and make them better with time. I am glad it was me to pick up your books and read and want and want to share the things hidden away in the past. I am glad it was me birthed into the world and allowed to share my observations and let them flow like water, filling up our lives and giving us guidance and new life. I am glad it was me, so others will not feel tragedy so deep. I want to make things even better, have more and more gather in gladness.
I am glad for my journey filled with colour. I am glad I am Indigenous. I am glad you let me express myself. I am glad you are who you are, so we can share these things together.
