I Lost My Voice

Last week Tuesday, some hours after teaching some school children Body Safety Education.

I noticed when I tried to speak my throat felt sore before I knew what was happening I couldn't talk audibly.

Hubby and Kay couldn't hear me, no one could.

It was frustrating.

I had to send texts to Hubby whenever I needed to communicate.

Kay couldn't understand why her Dad told her everything I should have. Why can't Mummy speak for herself?

She kept on asking;

"Mummy, what's wrong?"

"Mummy, why are you not talking to me"?

My Hubby tried to explain to the best of his ability, she got the message after a while and the next question was...When would you get your voice back?

It was difficult and painful whenever I tried to talk.

I started taking honey in warm water and I stopped speaking entirely to rest my voice.

I had a School to teach on Friday and there was no way I could cancel, I had to deliver that day.

The honey helped but my voice wasn't 100%.

On the said Day, I told my volunteer (new), she would take a topic while I did the rest.

The pupils worked with us and it was a smooth process. My volunteer called me the next day to inform me she had also lost her voice.

In all the schools we have been to, so far, we taught in their school hall.

Now I see the need to get microphones in furtherance of this cause that would ensure children are armed with knowledge and skills to prevent sexual abuse. Support of any kind is welcome.

I decided we needed a week's break to properly heal before we resume our tour in Kaduna State Primary Schools next week.

We officially started the #RaiseDontRuin project on the 3rd and as of 11th February 2022, we had impacted 277 primary school children with an hour of Body Safety Education. 30 - 40 minutes teaching time, 20 - 30 minutes question/counselling time.

Body Safety Academy aims to reach 3000 Primary School children before the end of the year, all for FREE.

I'm open to support, collaborations and partnerships.
