In hope - to realise a dream

Mr President and everyone else who can make this happen :-)
I do not want another girl to grow up like me. (you would realise that I have grown up – God's will)
If any of you are reading this letter, think, why is that I do not understand the strong emotions that cripple my mind, body and cause me pain beyond imagination. Yes, physical pain. Why, I have this desire to keep running for survival and not understand why I am in danger. I feel mentally exhausted just expressing these in writing. My emotions confuses me to the extend I don't want to be known and I don't want to go through the pain I feel now, I mean now, when I am writing this letter to you.
I feel my mind torn apart. I feel my head light. I feel my mind wanting to shut down something, I feel warm tears in my eyes and feel the tension in my throat making breathing difficult..... Is it my fault to be born as girl when people where waiting in hope for a boy. Is it my fault that others got all boys. Did I do something wrong. I grew up blaming me for everything that went wrong in my family and others who had a connection with me. I am surviving but lost a lot through growing up.
I want you to know that I am putting hard effort to be useful and try to reach you and your government by writing to help the children and women a bit more by endorsing and signing I-VAWA. I feel anger, pain, sadness, weakness, helplessness, hopelessness and I feel like screaming from here to make sure you hear me. Let me tell you, Mr President, in a small close-knit island communities abuse and mistreats are things people never speak of. We only hear stories and whispers of the suffering elders. As if, abuses are to be endured as part of a woman's life. I am still scared to write about my unexplained state of emotions but I promised myself to write in hope that others do not have to suffer. Please endorse IVAWA.
The women in Maldives suffer all sorts of violence in silence. Hear me, there is only one good study done in 2007 on domestic violence in Maldives. One woman shares “...keeps beating me mercilessly, ….neighbours never try to stop him. ..they... watch the commotion... if I had help my injuries would be less.” I am concerned by the numbers of abuse occurring in Maldives. These numbers are extremely high in proportion to the population. Actually, in Maldives, I felt it was only me who was in trouble. The silence is so powerful that we bury the unwanted pain deep. The problem is the pain comes back haunting. Please sign IVAWA
I am taking this opportunity to express my feelings for the women who suffer silently. Further, to convey my hope for a future that women could reach for peace in mind and body. It is in your hands and power to make the International Violence Against Women Act a success.
Mr President, you are in a position of power as a leader of one great country and also you have the power to represent my voice. “Great power comes with great responsibilities” (such a cliche too) I heard this line from the friendly neighbourhood Spiderman. I loves Spiderman :-) I am raising my voice for the children and women of the nation named the Maldives. I have the responsibility to raise my voice for the women of silence.
Please do remember International enforcement of I-VAMA will have implications at national levels, specially when Maldives is continuously helped by International organisations. Please do put your PB (personal best) in this crucial matter. May God give you the strength and give you the wisdom to make the right decisions.
I will follow the news in hope :-) Wish you and everyone working to endorse I-VAMA all the best
Sincerely
Amei
