Plant a tree and save another soul from perishing in the future
Rains are regarded as a blessing but this time around in Kenya they exceeded. Around 238 people perished in the floods while 235,000 were displaced and living under the mercy of the government and well-wishers in different camps. Schools re-opening dates were pushed hoping the newly announced dates stay and the rains subsides.
Landslides, collapsing & sweeping away of homes & buildings, floods, and collapsing of roads are what claimed the lives of citizens in Kenya. Sad because some bodies are yet to be retrieved. The waters in the dams surpassed the limits and swept people away. Those in informal settlements were affected the most, getting away with nothing to pick up themselves.
The President declared the 10th of May a public holiday to mourn the fallen people due to the exceeding rains. In honor of them, the citizens shall plant trees to build a more secure environment and create room for harsh climatic conditions solutions to avoid another hit in the future.
To the bereaved families, I wish you healing. It is sad to bury a family member, especially from an accidents of such form, take heart, and may God comfort you. I can’t promise that the pain will go away soon but eventually, it will go away. I hope the scars it leaves behind strengthen you and give you the courage to face the future and take care of the environment to prevent the repetition of the same.
To the dead, you can’t hear any of our voices but you have paid the price of building a better Kenya, a greener and safer one, we will forever be grateful. The tragedy I wish could be avoided sadly when it hits you can only hope it doesn’t cause any damage but it has since you are no longer here with us, rest well till we meet again, I hope people take the lessons home and reconstruct the environment.
To the government, I hope you can hearken to the cries of the displaced and offer lasting solutions. They need help in every aspect from financial to mental assistance. They didn’t expect to be hit so their mental health is badly affected, they need counseling to come to terms with the new reality as they get ready to start all over again. Hope their predicaments won’t be overlooked and help will be offered soonest.
This year we mourn, hoping it will be the last, I pray that next year we will be celebrating our joint efforts in making our country safer regardless of anyone’s class and the region they reside in .I hope better approaches to harvest the excess waters will be met, let not the floods kill people and later drought do the same. Invest in underground tanks & dams and trap as much water as possible.
It is feared that hunger might hit some parts of the country if not all in the near future because most of the plants were swept away and farmers are counting losses hence another call to action of ensuring food safety .We are one people one nation and when one gets hurts is a minus to all of us. The environment needs us the most and if we don’t act now we will forever play the victims, let's take the responsibilities reconstructs our ruined states without pointing fingers at one another.
To the medical staffs your country needs you the most, for the sake of the innocents ones I hope you arrive at an agreement and resume your work soon. The affected citizens are in need of serious medical attention because they are at a risk of contracting water borne diseases among others risks that they are exposed to .I have a dream that one day my country will achieve the ever green nation, flood will be a forgotten nightmare and thriving will be the order of the day.
