International Human Rights Day GIZ Human Rights Panel Discussion

On 21st November 2024, as part of celebrating the International Human Rights Day , I had the honour of being invited as a Speaker at the Deutsche Gessellchaft fur Internationale Zusammerbarbeit (GIZ)or the German Technical Cooperation Society. My contribution focused on inputs after a movie featuring Kisilu- a Kenyan farmer entitled Thank you for the Rain https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6512856/ on impacts of climate change.

My contribution focused on issues facing local communities on the ground and how climate change impacts and agriculture are interlinked

-What should be improved to listen better to the voices of marginalised persons ( more access to decision making spaces , to resources , safety , better self organisation and empowerment and what development donors should specifically do and

-The intersectional dimensions of climate change and how the impacts affect different groups in different ways

The forum further discussed youth participation as well as addressing shrinking civic space , particularly environmental defenders , in which reports by Civicus was shared.

This was a particularly important discussion in the wake of COP29.
