Introducing myself and my journal

About Me:
As a high school special education teacher, I am especially concerned about the lack of women role models in the teaching of history, english, science, math, and the arts. There is so little discussion in our classrooms about what women have contributed and continue to contribute to all of these areas. It disturbs me that women are silenced, even here in the United States, placed in the shadows and remembered, if they are, only during Women's History days. I'm tired of women's accomplishments and achievements being treated as an add-on. In addition, as a musician it disturbs me deeply that in order to be recognized in the music industry, women must become sex goddesses. What happened to the women's movement? We need a voice again. We need to stand up and say "I am here" and "I am amazing".
