About Me: I teach in the Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies Department at Portland State University in Portland, OR. I teach classes about north American girls and popular culture, and the history of American popular music with special critical attention to race and gender. I have volunteered with the Rock 'n' Roll Camp for Girls in Portland for ten years, and in August 2013 I will travel to Bahrain to teach a music camp for girls. I am very interested in learning more about musical cultures of girls and women from around the Persian Gulf.
