About Me:
Sharon Hwang of Denver has led a diverse life and, seemingly, has done it all: student, Peace Corps Member, nonprofit professional, business owner, and community leader. She currently owns and runs The Wellness Center, a for-profit wellness center she purchased and converted from a nonprofit. When she isn’t busy running her own business, she serves on the local chamber of commerce, volunteers with RESULTS (an antipoverty organization), and is President for the Progressive Women of Colorado, a group that she co-founded.
Sharon says she is committed to supporting women because “Women are collaborators and always looking to solve problems. Women are the nurturers of the world. Generally, we are the ones that are raising the next generation.” Because of this, not only has her business won numerous awards, be she was recognized as the 2005 Women’s Advocate Award by the Small Business Administration.
Sharon credits her commitment to being a community leader to her personality and upbringing, saying she has been a self-starter and leader ever since she was young. Additionally, she says that, “…being the first of my immediate family to be born in America, I was taught that if I worked hard I could do and be anything I chose. I have pretty much lived my life to that philosophy, which, in life, makes you the leader of your own life.” She also stays extensively involved because she says she loves what she does – her business reflects her lifestyle and core values.
